To Make: Melt the solidifier and/or solid fat together in the top of an enamel double boiler or in a small enamel pot. Add the oil and the herb water alternately, a bit at a time, stirring continuously. Remove the pot from the heat. Add the essential oil and stir it in completely. Pour into a small, 6-8 oz. opaque glass or plastic bottle. Shake the bottle almost continuously until the lotion has cooled. - From "The Herbal Body Book" by Jeanne Rose As you can see from the above recipes the equipment necessary for making your creams is minimal. A small enamel pot, a wooden spoon, measuring cup, measuring spoons, and a container for the finished product are all that are needed. Now that we know how to make a basic cream it is easy to go from here to the made-to-personal-skin-type-order sort of cream.

Melt the oil and the wax in the top of an enamel or glass double boiler, remove from heat, add your Orange water, and stir thoroughly. Pierce 10 capsules of 500 units of vitamin E and squeeze the contents into the cream. Add your essential oil and stir continuously until cool. This cream is very moisturizing and emollient. It is quite nice for rough, dry, or chapped complexions and should help to promote healthy-looking skin. - From "The Herbal Body Book" by Jeanne Rose |
